Would it snow if you lived in a town by the sea but still the Northern Hemisphere?

i am writting a book where the small town is located in northern Machusets, on the coast. however i am wondering if it would snow in winter? i am not from America so i wouldn't have a clue. the town is surrounded by heavy woods, wood that have any influence? also in summer does it rain alot in machusetts?
